My volunteer group collects at a storage unit in Oak Park. There, we used to entirely focus on asylum seekers who were dropped at the District 15 police station. The police stations are now closed and busses are being directed to a "landing zone". We are now using that storage to assemble "welcome packs" (suitcase, blanket, winter essentials, underwear, socks, toiletries) and we take them to the Landing Zone for distribution. We also take large loads of clothing/coats directly to the shelters for distribution.
And, because so many of our new friends are now moving to apartments, we are helping with the next process of getting in the apartment, furnishing, job search etc...
Current families I am helping:
Family #1 - D/M and 18 month old M
Current needs: Size 10 men’s sneakers, Size 10 men’s snow boots, floor lamps (2)
To save money, this asylum seeking family is selling homemade arepas and empanadas out of my house in Brookfield every other week. To support them, please order your dinner form them HERE. The password is FOOD.

Current needs: Everything. They were just moved to an apartment from a shelter. I found them a kitchen table and TV stand. They need the rest!
