Dept Cares

“C4C is a  powerful team of volunteers dedicated to supporting underserved communities by partnering with other community groups to complement and amplify their impact. By providing life necessities and personal guidance as part of refugee resettlement, we are able to promote dignity, health and self sufficiency”

C4C will organize an event on Monday, July 8 from 10am - 2pm to help multiple newly placed asylum seeking families get housewares and other necessities to furnish their apartment. Working through the US immigration system, the asylum seekers are provided with shelter and some services, however, they have nothing beyond an empty apartment when we step in. You can help get them on their feet by contributing in a few different ways. The goal is to be inclusive with the assistance options provided, providing support options with varying levels of physical participation:

  1. Donating items at the Chicago office or other locations leading up to the event.

    • Sway Dance Chicago - 3317 W Irving Park Rd

    • DEPT Chicago office -

  2. Raise awareness - post on social media, design flyers

    • Link to social media images

  3. Assist with organization of donor pickups and apartment drop offs. Spanish fluency is very helpful!

    • Meet at Sway Dance Chicago 3317 W Irving Park Rd on Monday, July 8th at 10am. Organize items to head to homes. Eat lunch. Split to teams to deliver items directly to homes.

  4. Transportation - people with vehicles to pick up and drop off the donations

    • Trucks would be amazing. Large SUVs are helpful. Cars will be needed to transport smaller items and humans to each location.

  5. Muscle - load boxes and other large items into vehicles, unload them into apartments

    • For larger items especially, we need muscle to load furniture and larger things into homes.

🚕Transportation and lunch 🍲will be provided for our volunteers! ✨

How are you able to provide assistance?
